Hershel Williams
The last living World War II Medal of Honor recipient Hershel Williams passed away on June 29, 2022 at the age of 98. He was presented the Medal of Honor from President Harry S Truman for his actions during the Battle of Iwo Jima in February 1945. Williams was cited for his valor going alone and fighting for four hours to knock out Japanese forces, allowing for Allied tanks to proceed. Harriet Tubman Flag Raising
On May 30, 2022, Memorial Day, our detachment participated in a flag raising event at the Harriet Tubman School, 8045 Harriet Tubman Lane, Columbia, Maryland 21044. According to Wikipedia,
Harriet Tubman School was the last operating segregated school in the Howard County Public School System. The historic building has been re-purposed for use by the school system for maintenance offices.

Memorial Day Ceremony
On May 28, 2022, our detachment participated in the Ellicott City Courthouse Memorial Day Ceremony. A color guard was provided by Howard County Veteran Service Organizations.
Greg Jolissaint, Commissioner and Chair, Howard County Commission for Veterans and Military Families, was the guest speaker.
