Need to find more ways to get the word out about the Scholarship. Ed would like to discuss the Scholarship Fund at the Eagle Scout meeting on Sat. 1/29. Ed would also like Kevin and Tim to assist him to type up a brief letter about the scholarship for the Eagle Scout meeting. Convention in April at Holiday Inn Ocean City, MD - Problems at Holiday Inn with public drinking, and now no alcohol allowed on property. You can only purchase drinks from Holiday Inn’s bar. MCL may need to sign a contract with Holiday Inn Emergency call from Commandant of Maryland Commandant reported that in the Semper Fi Gung Ho Newsletter he had found that 50 members in the newsletter were not active members, because they have been deceased. Detachment 1084 needs to immediately review our roster to get and accurate count of all members status. Ed had made the suggestion that all members from our meeting tonight receive the latest roster. Each member will be assigned 10 names from the list to confirm their status with Detachment 1084. MCL dues status also needs to be updated. Dates of the MCL Convention are for May 6 – 8 Motion was made to spend $125 on a 1 page ad. We’ll need to talk with Mike Betts on how to go about paying for the Ad. Report New business – Ed suggested we get the Joint Military Council back up and running by February. Ed will ask Mike Jackson from Post 156 to join as Chair. (If Mike Jackson accepts, a Vice Chair can’t be from Post 156) The Joint Military Council’s mission statement calls for 2 Vice Chairs The 1st order of business for the Joint Military Council will be with Gilchrist Hospice Services There was a food fight reported between a MD and Delaware detachment. This was over who had brought in the most from the Toys for Tots campaign. We should look into Paul Rivers to join the Joint Military Council as a Vice Chair. There is a need to get things organized with VFW 300, 742 and 156. What are these posts assigned to be doing for the MCL in Maryland? Announcement about Membership – Because of COVID and the passing of members has affected our membership. Need to work on ways to bring in new members. Good of the league – Flag retirement ceremony this Saturday 1/29. Open to ideas on presenting Flag etiquette. Ed suggested MCL put on Flag etiquette classes this Saturday. The Boy Scouts will be attending the ceremony this Saturday and we are looking for 2 or 3 members to explain this topic. The ceremony begins at 8:30 – 10:30. Tim had mentioned that the Women’s Auxiliary League will be hosting a Bull Roast on February 26th. Cost: $50 a ticket. Later clarification from Tim: The VFW Auxiliary regularly helps the main Post members with the Bull Roast. This year will mark the parade’s twenty-second year, and it will take place on Monday, July 4th, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The parade follows the length of Great Star Drive starting at Pointers Run Elementary School and will end at the River Hill Station professional building at 5005 Signal Bell Lane by the 5th District Volunteer Fire Department.
