Sr. vice Brosky gave out information regarding the up and coming fundraiser called “Basket Bingo.” He is asking members to go out and get sponsors to donate product and money to make this a success. Sr. vice has accumulated gifts and gifts certificates and is asking all members to try to obtain additional gift certificates. Pistol match is 4, 5, and 6th of June. Marine Casey discussed the golf tournament and is requesting permission to seek out alternative golf club location in place of Fort Meade. Road cleanup scheduled for April 17, 2010. Report of any member/family sick or distressed: Chaplain Joe Roman has received a couple of cards from Marine Walton who is still home with chronic illness. Marines Helping Marines update was given by Marine Betts who reminded each member that a cookout will be help for the wounded Marines at Bethesda Naval Hospital. On May 26, 2010 Marine Atkins and Marine Betts will be in attendance. Marine Casey read a thank you letter from Ron Short Past Commandant and director of the Marines Helping Marines program. Marine Casey also extended a thank you to Stan Brosky for his efforts with Basket Bingo. Chaplain Roman gave a brief update on the Ocean City convention and Marine Betts updated us on the new Department officers. Discussion was brought to the floor regarding our tax exempt status. More information is needed. Discussion was tabled to next meeting. Unfinished Business: New Business: Member Bill Swain presented information regarding donations from his Rotary Club for the Marine helping Marines program. Mike Betts will follow up with Bill Swain. Announcements: Marine Oliver spoke with MCL Auxiliary. MCL Auxiliary will be presenting $500.00 to the scholarship fund. Marine Graham shared with the group that our host VFW Hall will be holding a Memorial Day service and cookout at 1300. The location is the Jessup VFW on Montevideo Drive. Good of League: Marine Betts went to a funeral at Fort Lincoln. He conveyed that the monument that was at Fort Lincoln is in bad shape and thinks that it would be a good department project to clean and maintain the monument. In the event the department is not will to do this he recommends that our detachment should take on the task of cleaning this up. Marine Betts will keep us up to date. He has been in and out of hospital. Report of officers: Commandant Kippenbrock extended his apologies for missing the first meeting and is looking forward to our upcoming year as a detachment. Report of Standing Committees: Pistol match was well attended. 14 people from our detachment and 4 from Anne Arundel. Pistol match went well. All the shooting was completed on Saturday. Golf Tournament info to follow at the next meeting. Scholarship committee met today to discuss applicants and a decision for candidates will be made in the not-too-distant future. Two members of the scholarship committee were not available today to complete the process. Dennis Starliper will email the decision to all members. At the July meeting we will recognize the scholarship recipients. Commandant Kippenbrock suggested that the recipient and their family be present at the start of our meeting. In the event this does not take place at the July meeting, Dennis Starliper will need to make sure that the scholarship money arrives at the school. Adopt-a-Highway: Road cleanup went well. Commandant stated that all our hard work is paying off. Only five bags of trash were picked up. Report of Special Committees: Unfinished Business: New Business: Healing waters project is having an event this weekend and will need some volunteers to help out with cooking and assisting the wounded Marines that will be in attendance. July 24 will be another event. Healing Waters would like us to supply food and man power to help at this event. Motion on floor by Mike Betts to supply $500.00 from the benevolence fund. Good of the League: Marine Betts went to a meeting of the Rotary Club in an effort to join forces to receive donation for the Marines Helping Marines. Marine Stan Brosky supplied photos of the Marine Memorial at Fort Lincoln cemetery and the work that has been done and still needs to be done. Report of any member/family sick or distressed: Jane Starliper had a stroke, Jane is a member of the MCL Auxiliary and Dennis, her husband, is a member of the MCL. Dennis called Kip this afternoon to update him on her condition. Hoping to have Jane out of the hospital by Friday to start rehab. Prognosis looks good. John Heckendorf's wife Barbra is coming along. Marine Graham updated the detachment on Barbs condition. Marine Walton is home and hanging in there. Report of officers: Kip gave a brief report on some of the functions he attended. Sr. Vice has been busy with personal surgeries that he has had. Jr. Vice has been working the Bethesda details on Wednesdays. He also gave a brief update on the MCL detachment that has started in Annapolis. J/A gave a brief update of one of the members that is also involved in the new detachment. Veterans/MCL day cake cutting ceremony will be held November 14, 2010. Marine Betts gave an update on the booth that was attended at the Silverado gun show where we sold raffle tickets. Update on Oktoberfest was given. Request that all members help with the set up of this function so that the work is completed by all. This way the same people are not doing all the work. Basket Bingo update was given by Stan and Michael Siemasko. This event is expected to be held in April 2011. Commandant Kippenbrock gave out information that family donations are 501C3. Corporations are not. Donations from Corporations need to go to Marines Helping Marines. New Business: Motion made for the MCL to cover the expense of the Oktoberfest not to exceed $500.00. Motion passed. Motion for the MCL to pay $250 for the bar expense at the Oktoberfest. Saturday November 20 is the tenatative date to do the repairs. Stove in kitchen vent needs to be replaced. Motion made and accepted to spend up to $250.00 for supplies. New Business: Young Marines want to man the Toys-for-Tots at Toy’s-R-Us. But they will need our help to pick up and deliver the toys. Commandant Kippenbrock will find out more information and get and an email chain going with more info. Marine Casey offered up his garage for storage. Announcements: Everyone that shows up for the road clean up is invited for breakfast at the Casey home. Good of League: Al Hernandez contacted Joe Roman with regards to the cake cutting ceremony at the Yingling post on November 10, 2010.
